Why an "assault rifle"?

Thanks to a deranged individual who murdered a number of children and a few adults, the topic of gun control has reached a new level of fervor here in the United States.  Every side is chiming in with the statistics they have to support their belief and to coerce others to capitulate; the debate among people, be it online or at the grocery store check lane has no relevance on what the outcome will be.  There are special interests and politicians who have been around for years that have long awaited their moment to not "...let a good crisis go to waste".  These people will, for a variety of reasons (some personal, some financial, others for more nefarious reasons) try to disarm Americans.  The means they use may vary, perhaps an outright ban on all future sales and transfers of such weapons.  Maybe a ban in conjunction with a declaration of all magazines in excess of 5 or 10 rounds to be illegal...and a cost-prohibitive tax on all ammunition related to such weapons.  It is unlikely that UN troops will be marching door-to-door to collect our "assault rifles" anytime soon, but to be honest, I would prefer this to the latter option as direct confrontation allows me the opportunity to challenge my opposition in a manner that will be unmistakeably heard.

Aside from the most grabby of the gun-grabbers, most people tend to agree that a revolver or shotgun is "authorized" or "permitted" by the Second Amendment.  A somewhat smaller group of people would also include bolt-action/lever-action rifles as "allowable".  A larger divide can be found with regards to semi-auto handguns, where any debate tends to focus on magazine capacity.  Lastly, perhaps the largest divide of all comes with the topic of those evil black rifles; you know, the scary looking ones that cops and soldiers use or the other scary looking ones used by terrorists, Commies, and bad guys in movies.  "Assault rifles".  Why would any ordinary citizen "need" one of those?  They have "high capacity" magazines (actually, 30 is standard capacity), they can be reloaded quickly, and according to Bill O'Reilly they are "heavy weapons".  The Second Amendment was written so we could have muskets right?...or maybe it meant that only the National Guard (government controlled military force) could be armed?  Well, let's look at what the last straw was that caused the Revolution to go hot:  Battles of Lexington and Concord.  It can be stated fairly that both the British soldiers and the colonists had very similar weapons and that the British sought to disarm the militias.  Why was it that our founding fathers said "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."?  Let's break this down a bit.  What does well regulated militia mean?  A website has compiled information relative to the term, please check it out.  http://www.guncite.com/gc2ndmea.html  A militia must train regularly, it must utilize and train in tactics of the modern military, and as such, must be equipped with a rifle on par with what is currently used by armies worldwide.

My Letter to President Obama and My Congressmen

A message from a concerned citizen:
With the threat of a looming "assault weapons" ban on the horizon, I wanted to send a strong, unwavering, and crystal clear message to my elected representatives; I urge you strongly NOT to support ANY form of new gun control laws. We the People will not consent to, nor will we accept as a just or lawful order to relinquish, register, or otherwise sell, alter or destroy our firearms of any type. The political atmosphere of the nation is currently a powder keg, if you will pardon the pun. The assault on our civil liberties to date has been duly noted by many and we have noticed the sizable requisitions for ammunition by the DHS and other government agencies. We have paid attention when tyrannical legislation such as the "indefinite detention" of American citizen provisions were sneaked into the NDAA. We watched in horror as we discovered that our highest elected and appointed officials were caught essentially providing known violent drug cartels with weaponry through Operation Fast and Furious. We know of the pending plans to place a drone fleet in service in the American skies. We have been fondled at airports, our progeny has been saddled with debt that cannot even hope to be repaid, and the only amendment in the Bill of Rights that has not yet been eviscerated as of yet is the 3rd. We have had enough. Enough taxes, enough debt, enough lies, enough war, enough laws and regulations, enough fiscal chicanery and enough of political expediency and corruption.
As America inches closer to the edge of the abyss called Tyranny, it would serve you well to remember the very Constitution you swore an Oath to uphold and protect. Vote against any and all infringements on our right to keep and bear arms, lest you wish to be labelled as treasonous and held accountable to such charges. The rights ENUMERATED in the Bill of Rights aren't rights that were given or granted by any government authority; these rights are unalienable, which is to say that they are not to be separated, given away, or taken away.
Lastly, here are some notable quotes to consider:
"No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government"
-- Thomas Jefferson, 1 Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
"The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference - they deserve a place of honor with all that's good"
-- George Washington
"The best we can hope for concerning the people at large is that they be properly armed."
-- Alexander Hamilton, The Federalist Papers at 184-188
"Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the act of depriving a whole nation of arms, as the blackest."
-- Mahatma Gandhi
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
-- Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759.

Righthaven and Stephens Media LLC

So they attacked the Drudge Report and countless others for what, sharing a link?...including a "copyrighted picture"? Come the fuck on...apparently newspapers have forgotten that they sucked before the Internet got us all hooked.

Stephen Colbert goes too far.

Farm work is not high paying, glamorous, fun (for most people at least), or safe; I grant you that. Despite these glaringly obvious facts, there are other facts that have been neglected. In the age of "I want it bigger...faster...cheaper!", what used to be family farms have become MEGA FARMS. The massive farm corporate mentality has lead us to this point...who is to blame? We the People are mostly to blame for falling for the slick bullshit ad campaigns touting the grandness of companies like ADM and Monsanto (etc). Additionally, we are to blame for believing that everything should come cheap and easy and that we Americans deserve cheap, GMO food reaped by third world trespassers so we can spend more on electronics and designer clothes. We fell for the bullshit and here we are, surrounded by ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS who came to American to find a better life by toiling away for a pittance of a salary in California's Central Valley.
Well, these ILLEGAL immigrants don't just take the farming jobs; they take CONSTRUCTION jobs and LANDSCAPING jobs and FAST FOOD jobs and a myriad of other jobs because other employers have decided to capitalize on the readily available cheap labor (not a dig on capitalism, if there were no entitlements available in the US most of these trespassers would not be here and I wouldn't be as offended if they stayed). The fact is any company that does not use a program such as E-Verify to check legal work status will miss the phony SSNs and and falsified IDs provided at employment (if any at all). While the Libertarian in me plays Devil's Advocate and suggests these ILLEGALS could stay, I find that such a thing is not "sustainable" because American is not a Libertarian society. There is no such thing as open and free markets and we are ALL slaves to a tax system and payers into an entitlement web set to capture all the lowly worker bees and ensnare them in a poverty prison. I recognize that I must sound dangerously close to a Commie at this point so please, read on so that I may re-earn your respect as a fellow Patriot. I suggest that if the incentives to come here were removed (free tax-slave provided entitlements), less would come here. If the borders were better secured (the mark of a nation is defined borders just as much as a military force, government, etc), the rest would be less likely to make it.
Now, back to American-bashing, you cannot have it both ways. When I was a kid, I looked forward to turning 14 so I could work at Comstock & Ferre's farm. I worked full-time and did not make much money and was exposed to less-than-desirable work conditions, but I got my check week after week and I felt good to make the money I had earned because my mother did not pay my way (we were quite poor). Honestly, I enjoyed the hell out of that job and only changed employment to the grocery store at the age of 15 (child labor laws) because the pay was better and it wasn't seasonal. Point being, kids don't do jack shit to earn their keep anymore! I have a 14 yr old daughter and most of her friends have better cell phones than I do. They also have a much more trendy/recent gaming system than our family has and every other luxury that surpasses ours in value and currency (as is in current-ness). I don't care so much that these kids are faring better comfort-wise and technologically than the hard working and educated parents of this American family, but I certainly feel that it is indicative of what We the People have become! What do these children do to EARN the pleasures they so take for granted? No a @#$%^&* thing! Oh sure, maybe they get good grades...isn't that expected already!? How hard is it to obtain good grades in today's public education system? What do today's kids do to earn their luxury? Nothing. What are these third world people willing to do? Pimp themselves and their families to "coyotes" to travel hundreds of miles from home to a place that [sort of] doesn't want them to do the jobs "Americans don't want to do". All I am saying is that I want Americans to re-learn the value of hard work even when it isn't glamorous or likely to get you in the next audition for American Idol. Our kids need to learn from the ground up and quit being so pampered. Believe me, IF I HAD MY "DRUTHERS", EVERY SINGLE ILLEGAL WOULD BE SHIPPED THE HELL OUTTA AMERICA. But then what? Who will pick our tasty strawberries? Seriously?
Oh yeah, Stephen Colbert...I like my job. I compete with illegals every single day; between the ILLEGAL immigrants and the crappy economy bequeathed to me by our elected puppets, I will again have to seek employment from someone other than myself, as I am now out of business. I have spent THOUSANDS of dollars to acquire the tools I own and the truck that transports them and over a DECADE of my life to learn my trade; so Colbert, report this [look at my profile pic, now imagine a middle finger instead of the pistol]!

Fear and Loathing in Kalifornia

Problem, reaction, solution; this is the normal chain of events in the People's Republik of Kalifornia. With the Spirit of Liberty having been renewed in this Republic and its many states, many people have chosen to exercise their rights to openly carry firearms where it is permitted to do so. The commonly accepted mantra is: "If you don't USE your rights, you will LOSE your rights."
Well, it would appear that California legislators see things differently, for they are attempting to ban open carry from the state. Of course as of today, the law allows open carry of a weapon, provided that it is not in a "ready to fire" condition, i.e, the firearm must not have ammunition "attached" to it any manner that renders it ready to fire. However, one may currently carry an unloaded weapon [holstered or otherwise visually discernible] and said individual may carry loaded magazines on their person as well. For those of you in more Liberty-friendly states, unloaded open carry must sound absolutely unheard of; this is the because in 1967, the Black Panthers showed up at the state legislature in Sacramento carrying loaded weapons. The legislature soon changed the law in response to limit open carrying to unloaded weapons.
It seems that now that people feel that their rights are becoming so infringed that we must reclaim them, more legislation is forthcoming to further restrict them. Apparently a big reason for this new draconian legislation is the inability of police officers of immediately being able to determine whether a weapon is loaded or unloaded. I have heard far too many statements from officers or their spokesholes who are concerned for officer safety.
A right is a right is a right...laws cannot revoke rights or infringe upon them. However, the onus falls upon We the People to reclaim our rights. We do not need a majority vote, we only need remind those who would infringe upon our rights the cost of doing so. Until We the People have decided to take such a bold stance, compromises and "reasonable infringement" will ever devour our rights! I have lost faith in politicians and the voting process as I have lost faith in far too many of my countrymen. I fight for the rights of myself and my family for generations to come...I need not have any others support, though I welcome it and offer support likewise.
As Samuel Adams once said: "If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."
Some of us will carry our weapons, without special permits, whenever and wherever we see fit to do so; some of us will accept laws as the final word...where do you stand?

If you have not harmed anyone with a "weapon", where is the crime?

Anything can be used as a weapon, a knife, a baseball bat, a sharpened toothbrush handle (a shiv), a rock, a fallen tree branch, a gun, a hammer...you get the point, pun intended. I did not link to the gun being used as a weapon because the MSM has already drilled that point home, but there is another side to that story. I digress; there was an arrest not far from my place of residence (maybe a 20-30 minute drive, depending on traffic) of a

Man arrested for having spear gun, knife and nunchucks

Granted, it appears that this guy may be guilty of filing a false report and may have been under the influence of methamphetamines; but what is illegal about having a spear gun or a large hunting knife? Why are nunchucks a restricted item when a baseball bat or short length of iron pipe could do more damage? Are Chinese throwing stars restricted as well? If so, why aren't circular saw blades restricted? I mean they are like shuriken on crack...
I may lose credibility for seeming to defend a tweeker, but I am merely trying to point out that it would seem that the unwashed masses are prone to a more vigorous attempt to find charges to file against than say, the Only Ones when they act up.
All jokes aside, this guy may have been a dirtbag, but I'm sure if he was indeed a drug addict they cops could have found enough evidence to arrest him on drug charges. Then again, adrenaline is a hell of a wild ride and if this guy had someone pointing a gun in his face moments earlier, he may have seemed to be erratic and spun out; devil's advocate speaking here.
Why is it that We the People may not have weapons without the Master's approval? This is a rhetorical question of course for I could care less what Master has to say about it. Seriously though, why do you suppose they would place more emphasis on restricting two sections of wooden rod connected by a chain than they do for lengths of rope or laptop computers? This just gets more ridiculous by the minute!

How many more candlelight vigils?

At what point do We the People see the duck quacking and walking in a duck-like fashion before we declare it to be a duck? Seriously? Stories like this are more than abundant, they are commonplace. Apparently the suspect in question was at another apartment...so as for the 7 year old girl whose life has been extinguished so abruptly, what apologies are worthy enough? For the family of this child, what will make them healed of their pain? Keep in mind, this is Detroit, Michigan; a city that has always been plagued with crime, but now suffers from the aftermath of a Depression and is a crime-ridden ghost town.
So, imagine, you are sleeping soundly and hear a loud bang followed by an intense flash of light and hurried, aggressive footsteps accompanied by the unfamiliar shouting voices of hostile men. Maybe you register the "police" part of their vociferous expression, maybe you don't; but at nearly 1 AM you probably aren't very trusting that the voices belong to police since you haven't done anything wrong. Now comes the hard part: if you were pulled over by one of these asshole, gung-ho, over-zealous cops in broad daylight when in fact you were speeding; of course you would comply and take the ticket and be as respectful as one can muster. What about in your own home when it is late at night and you have not done anything worthy of such an invasion? Do you reach for your firearm and target acquisition device and rain lead down like nobody's business on your foes?
I suggest the latter. If there is no good reason why police should be kicking down your door in the middle of the night (i.e.: have not murdered anyone, etc) you most certainly have a right to question the motives of anyone entering your home against your wishes...LEO or otherwise. I am not giving legal advice, I am giving plain old common sense advice. Criminals tend to strike at such hours; it would seem our Only Ones have adopted similar practices and are also looking for a moment of weakness and surprise of their target. Unless LEO knocks on my door and allows me to answer and likewise responds in a respectful fashion without holding a machine gun to my head or any of my family members heads, I will consider any invasion to be a threat in need of immediate elimination.
Too many Americans have allowed themselves to be indoctrinated into the Police State. I respect the good cops out there who truly serve and protect...I have their six whenever they need it. Crooked or otherwise overly-aggressive cops are just bullet magnets as far as I am concerned. I always feel the need to issue he caveat: I am not threatening anyone who isn't threatening me. That being said, fuck the cops who do not respect the position We the People have offered them. Not all sheepdogs have badges you know...and not all wolves are without badges.
Ultimately, there is yet another innocent victim who has perished as an Oops Police Action. A 7 year old girl this time (disgusting!), who's next? When and where do we draw the line?!
